Copaiba is a rainforest tree growing to between 50 and 90 feet in height with long, flowering panicles and small white flowers. This particular Copaiba tree is found throughout South America and the Amazon region. The resin is extracted by tapping or drilling holes into the tree, which then the resin leaks out of the holes. No trees are hurt or killed using this process of extraction. The oleoresin is then distilled to make the essential oil. The resin was 1st mentioned in Apothecary books in Europe in the early 1600’s. It has a long history of being used by native people of the Amazon for a number of medicinal purposes. Much ongoing research is being
done on this essential oil and its medicinal properties. But Copaiba has been proven in studies to be a very strong antiseptic and anti-viral essential oil.
